Since 2009, it has also become possible to play polo in the Engadin during summer – thanks to St. Moritz Polo AG’s new all-weather field. St. Moritz Polo AG is thereby taking another step to establish the Engadine as an important horse riding destination in the summer too, which is underlined by the construction of an extensive training centre particularly to support the next generation of polo players.
Ten horses await riders at the Stalla Bodmer Equestrian Sports Centre in Samedan. In Manuel Cereceda, an Argentinian polo player with a 3-goal handicap, we have secured an excellent polo coach who is perfectly qualified to introduce students to their first steps with stick and ball and to offer individual lessons for the professional polo player.
All St. Moritz Polo Club members are welcome too and can train their own horses for polo playing, for example – or even to become future polo players themselves.
The versatile all-weather field can be used for showjumping, polo and competitions. The six polo ponies that had already been living in the Equestrian Sports Centre were joined in mid-2010 by Hucul ponies. This allows the Samedan Equestrian Sports Centre to offer a variety of equestrian sports such as polo, showjumping, dressage and hacking over varied routes.
For the first time in the tournament’s almost 30-year history, the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow had to be cancelled this year due to the weather conditions. The ice covering Lake St. Moritz was too thin to ensure safe conducting of the polo tournament. Looking to the future, we will do everything in our power to ensure optimal conditions for the next St. Moritz Polo World Cup in 2013.
