50 YEARS ST. MORITZ POLO CLUB

The St. Moritz Polo Club has established a network for a limited circle of polo players and enthusiasts, and in 2009 will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. Members of the Club have privileged entry to exclusive events and occasions that are not accessible to the public at large. Together with our partners, the Guards Polo Club in the UK, and other international connections, we offer you the opportunity to discover the unique world of polo all over the world.

 

Guards Polo Club and St. Moritz Polo Club are proud to announce that the two clubs will maintain their long-lasting partnership with even closer cooperation and various projects in the future. We offer a reciprocal membership and the opportunity to attend selected events in the course of the year and to participate in several of the countless activities organised by the Guards Polo Club.

 

St. Moritz is one of the cradles of the game of polo in continental Europe. In 1899 the first polo field was laid out at St. Moritz Bad on the initiative of a group of British cavalry officers, who used to play polo as part of their military training and to while away the time. In 1959 the St. Moritz Polo Club was founded under the chairmanship of Dr. P. R. Berry. Founder members included Andrea Badrutt, Peter Kaspar and Col. Lodi from Rome. The St. Moritz Polo Club has staged numerous summer and winter polo tournaments since 1960. Since 1984 St. Moritz has been the venue for the world’s most prestigious winter polo tournament. As a sporting event, the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow ranks second to none.
